VALLEJO, Calif. - The California Department of Education released its 2025 California School Dashboard for the Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD), providing an opportunity to assess our strengths, identify areas of growth, and pinpoint areas that still require improvement. VCUSD Superintendent Rubén Aurelio shared that he feels hopeful and determined to keep moving forward.

Superintendent Aurelio stated the district has made meaningful gains, but more work is needed to meet its goals. He underscored the need to accelerate progress for all students.

The California School Dashboard is crucial to the California State Department of Education's accountability system. The Dashboard, an online tool, presents the performance of schools, districts, county offices, and the state based on state and local priorities. Its purpose is to provide parents and the public with a comprehensive view of the performance of districts and schools aligned with state priorities. The state bases its performance on both current status and growth. State indicators categorize schools and districts into five color-coded levels: blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. Blue signifies the highest performance, while red indicates the lowest.

Superintendent Aurelio noted the results confirm the need to focus on key priorities: high-quality instruction for every student, positive school climate, and strong support services. These remain essential to achieving district goals.

The 2025 Dashboard preview shows progress for VCUSD. In English Language Arts (ELA), the district improved by 6.1 points, moving from a red to a yellow rating. These point gains represent enhanced student proficiency and reflect our efforts in curriculum and instruction adjustments that help improve learning outcomes. Student groups also showed gains: African American students by 9.8 points, English learners by 9.2 points, long-term English learners by 10 points, Hispanic students by 7 points, Filipino students by 3.9 points, white students by 7.2 points, and students with disabilities by 5.7 points. These improvements mean that more students are at or above grade level in ELA, opening up new learning opportunities and better preparing them for future academic challenges.

Mathematics improved, with the district’s score increasing by 4.1 points, moving from orange to yellow. Gains included 9.6 points for African American students, 5 points for English learners, 9.4 points for long-term English learners, 5.4 points for Hispanic students, and 7.3 points for Filipino students.

Graduation rates increased by 2.6 percent, resulting in a change from orange to yellow.

Despite encouraging progress, Superintendent Aurelio reiterated that the district’s vision requires much more. VCUSD will continue to work to accelerate achievement, close equity gaps, improve attendance, strengthen family partnerships, and ensure consistent, high-quality instruction for every student.

He reaffirmed that lasting improvement depends on collaboration between the district and community. United support for students is essential to making real change possible.

VCUSD invites families and community members to explore the Dashboard results and join us in upcoming discussions, including the LCAP Survey.
